Areas of focus include duplex of the extracranial carotid arteries and peripheral arteries and veins, and renal arteries and kidneys. Taught through lectures featuring actual case studies, ample time is set aside each afternoon for practical hands-on scanning of live models. Participants will learn techniques for detecting and quantifying disease in the carotid arteries, peripheral arteries and veins, abdominal aorta, renal arteries and kidneys. Interpretive skills are developed through case presentations and interpretation sessions. The course offers a comprehensive overview, from the patient’s referral, clinical history, physical assessment, to the final interpretation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.

Understand the clinical applications of duplex scanning of the extracranial arterial circulation.

Understand the clinical applications of duplex scanning of the lower extremity arteries and veins.

Understand the clinical applications of duplex scanning of the renal arteries.

Understand basic interpretation criteria and develop the skills to interpret pathology cases.

Participants may enroll in specific sections of interest or for the complete 4-day series.

Carotid Duplex Scanning: (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Day 1 includes training in duplex of the extracranial carotid and vertebral arteries.
